Dearest Breathing Room Community,
It's time! Our fall schedule starts this week, and we have some lovely additions to our schedule and to our support materials. Let me tell you about the new schedule (i.e., new PEOPLE first):
Greta Keiper-Blake is a new member of our Business program and is newly arrived from Pennsylvania. She has a strong background in teaching yoga and other areas of fitness (especially spinning). As with Laura & I, she is offering a vinyasa flow class, which means that there will be movements to connect from one posture to the next. She's excited to meet our community and I know you'll enjoy meeting her too!! Tuesdays 4:30-5:30
Phyllis Smith is a well-known and well-loved part of our academic community, but this is the first time she will be sharing her regular meditation practice on campus. She will give you the tools you need to maintain a practice between her classes, and use it to experience stress reduction, greater focus that enhances your work and play, relaxation of the mind and body, and greater equanimity (more centered, grounded, and balanced) in your life. Tuesdays 12-1pm
Natalie Teague is an immigration lawyer well-known in Asheville for her strong advocacy for immigrant populations. She is teaching in our Political Science program AND is excited to share her yoga and meditation practice with our community. She intends to offer a class that combines meditation and slow movement so that you can experience how each practice supports the other. Thursdays 12-1pm
Laura Boggess is back to offer more of her lovely yoga practice and teaching! This year she is offering more of a vinyasa flow class (see above) in keeping with the afternoon timeslot. Laura's classes are 10 kinds of wonderful, forward and backward, and back again. Wednesdays 4:30-5:30
Me - vinyasa flow with somethings you'll recognize and some new twists (especially since I'm writing this less than 2 hours after returning from 24 hours of yoga training over the last 3 days in Charlotte!!!). I can't wait to see you all!!! Mondays 4:30-5:30
ALSO - Breathing for Stress Reduction is the new-ish name for the student-focused breathing class that runs from 5:45-6:30. Pass the word on this one - it counts for First Year Connection points!
It is ultimately the PEOPLE that make Breathing Room wonderful, but some new blocks, straps, and bolsters surely won't hurt!! Remember I mentioned how wonderful Laura is??? Well, here is an example. Laura has contributed new blocks and straps to Breathing Room that will help support her yoga class students (PE) and our Breathing Room community!! Also, we have finally stuffed the 10 bolster covers that were sewn last year and they are super comfy!! We have 10 more covers to-be-sewn and will need more blankets to help stuff them. If you find yourself with extra blankets, please bring them in!!
Pretty exciting, right???? We can't wait to see you and to share with you!! Come visit us soon!!
Namaste,
Jonna
