Prescribed Burn at Smith Farm Info Session Sun Jan 17th 4pm
by Bailey Mountain - Many habitats in western NC burn naturally and need fire to maintain the species that live there. However, years of fire suppression have dramatically changed our forest communities. Burning on the Smith Farm will allow native species to return to the fields, providing habitat to wildlife. Controlled burns also reduce the risk of dangerous wild fires by safely burning off fuel load.
In late January 2021, the NC Forest Service will burn the lower fields of the Smith Farm of Bailey Mtn Preserve. To learn why, join us at 4pm on Sunday January 17th via zoom. We'll talk about the burn with the experts who will conduct it and answer questions or hear any concerns you may have.
This meeting will be held virtually and recorded for future viewing and posted the Bailey Mtn Preserve facebook page. Please contact lboggess@mhu.edu or baileymtn@mhu.edu for the zoom link.
Please spread the word, and thanks!
