Volunteer Opportunity for MHU Students!
Marshall Public Library and the Marshall Native Garden Initiative (MNGI) need your help to create a “hotspot” for Madison County children to participate in ecoEXPLORE, a program of the NC Arboretum.
Through ecoEXPLORE, kids are encouraged to engage in citizen science by photographing the natural world. The Arboretum partners with public libraries to create “hotspots” which contain pollinator gardens, bird feeders, etc. These locations enable kids to encounter and take pictures of the natural world.
The program has become so popular in Buncombe County that it is now expanding to the Marshall Public Library in Madison County. The Marshall Public Library has a lot of work to do to get set up as a hotspot, and they need your help!
Marshall Native Garden Initiative (MNGI) will be heading up the “hotspot” project. The work day would be from 9 am to 3 pm on March 4th, and some of the projects will potentially include installing a rain garden, removing debris piles, installing nesting boxes, laying mulch, and installing a handrail for part of the garden.
The MNGI needs around 10-15 volunteers to help. Lunch will be provided.
Any interested students should contact Erica Hincke at tncaamericorps@gmail.com, by Friday, Feb. 17. Hincke is a Mars Hill graduate who is currently serving as the AmeriCorps Project Conserve member at the NC Arboretum.
